American Idol & Sony (btw, SONY IS A 4 LETTER WORD!)

You know, I generally don't watch American Idol. I really can't stand the whole 'reality TV' concept. However, with a household full of ladies, often times I'm vetoed whenever it comes to programming choices for the night. Anyway, I begrugdingly watched last night...............and I actually enjoyed it.

Lee Dewyze was good. And I got a big 'I told you so' from the peanut gallery.

While I'm on the subject of watching TV, I think it's appropriate to mention my utter detest for Sony right now! I purchased a new 52" LCD 1080p flat panel TV 2 years ago. The HD and Blu-Ray quality was unreal. However, a couple of weeks ago it just decided to go crazy. Double vision is about the only way I can explain what happens to the picture.

After originally calling my dealer and then Sony, I was told by both that I needed to have an authorized Sony repair technician come out and give me a diagnosis. He did. And $75 later he informed me that the TV I originally paid $2500 for --this was 2 years ago now mind you-- would cost $3000 to fix?! Huh?! I'm not a genius, but I'm not stupid either. Who in there right mind would actually do that?

I asked this guy if he's ever had anyone dumb enough to go that 'repair' route. And of course he hadn't. So, after many many phone calls to Sony's "customer care" division I got nowhere. Just a very unsympathetic "I know how you must feel" speech. Then 1 week ago I got a call and a 'special offer' to purchase an equivalent TV for $1800........uhhhh NO!

Listen, I don't expect electronics to last forever. But when my house is full of $50 TV's that are 20 years old..........I kinda expect one that costs $2500 to last just a little bit longer than 2 years! At the very least, I expect the only 'fix' to cost considerably less than the TV did originally. Even though I loved my TV when it worked, and I love my PS3, I'm done with Sony. They'll never get another dime from me. And with the bad mouthing I've done to them with family & friends, I'd say it's a safe bet I've cost them at least a small amount of business.

Ok, done with the rant. Have a good one...........
